Introduction
Up until the early 1990s, per capita beer consumption in Russia was negligible, fluctuating between 15 and 25 L per capita. However, since the mid-1990s consumption has increased dramatically. Between 1996 and 2007, per capita beer consumption more than quintupled from 15 to 80 L per capita, a level similar to the EU average. Thanks to this impressive growth, Russia has become the world’s third largest beer market, after China and the US but ahead of Germany, the UK or Brazil
by 2001, the proportion of beer drinkers (60%) had overtaken the share of vodka drinkers (57%). Between 1994 and 2007 the share of beer in total alcohol consumption increased from 51% to 79%, while the share of vodka decreased from 39% to 13%
The fraction of beer drinkers in each younger cohort is at least 10% points higher than in the preceding birth cohort.
One interesting finding in our analysis is that prices of beer and vodka appear to play no role in explaining the likelihood of beer drinking in Russia.

Собственно, а на кого еще может быть похож современный русский, как не на размякший пельмень,
покрытый ватой? После литра пива-то в день, каждый день…
Пиво (хорошее и свежее) в СССР было редко, за ним тут же выстраивались очереди,
разбирали за час-два все.
И это было правильно.
Водку ведь приняв обычную норму в сто-50, сразу спать, минимально закуски.
На утро как огурчик свеж и полон производительности труда.
И дешево, и не так вредно.
Пиво же в современной России начинает и млад и стар сосать прямо с утра и
к ночи насасывает себе сполна на пивной животик.
Конечно, какие тут мозги, какое образование?
Рыла - ВО, животы - ВО, вместо мозгов пельмень.
Оно конечно хорошо и удобно таким народом управлять - пиво есть, ума не надо.
